How do I increase the amount of DRAM available to theGMA500?
How do I increase the amount of DRAM available to theGMA500?
Hi,
I have a Fit PC 2i - 2GHz / 2GB. In the BIOS the Graphics Aperture is set to 256MB; however, when evaluating the system it appears that only 38MB DRAM is being made available to the GMA 500 video processor.
The result is very poor graphics performance - video works (but is jerky), but the most noticeable problem is with the Windows interface - it is unacceptably jerky when moving a window around and there is severe ghosting. Deselecting the 'Show window contents while dragging' in the Performance Options panel masks this issue, but this is not suitable for our application.
The Aero interface requires 64MB to 128MB VRAM so in theory, if the GM500 can access the full 256MB DRAM, the Aero interface should look ok. The same issue occurs with 'Windows Basic' and 'Windows Classic' desktop - i.e. the versions with lower graphics requirements.
I am running a 22" display - 1680 x 1050 - in its native resolution + 32-bit colour with Win 7 Professional + the latest graphics driver (downloaded from Fit PC website).
So, my questions are:
1. Am I asking too much of the Fit PC2i by using a display of this size (although it is well within the supported resolution)
2. Can the graphics driver be persuaded to utilize more of the DRAM (theoretically) available?
Thank you for any help.

Re: How do I increase the amount of DRAM available to theGMA
BIOS allocates 256MB. How much is actually used is up to the driver. There are two drivers for Win7 - GMA500 and EMGD. You may try the other one to see if it is any better.

Did you find an answer to your problem.
We are also experiencing very slow redraw on a marine navigation software.

As I see from the MaxSea web site
I am not familiar with this software, but I afraid that the software demands are too high for the FitPC2Graphic cards : chipset Intel and ATI/AMD graphic video card are not recommended.
