Wireless card not visable

Post by Modern Times »

Re: fit-PC2i 1600 I just installed Mint 9 and there is no option to enable the wireless. Wired LAN OK. Just un-installed 10.04 LTS and there was a visible card, but it showed "disconnected" in Ubuntu. In Mint it shows non existent in menu. System is updated and this is my first interaction with the forum. Thanks in advance!

Hi

Please follow this instruction after install
http://fit-pc2.com/wiki/index.php/Insta ... nux_Mint_9

It seems you didn't update linux kernel

Thanks

Thank you for the reply. Regarding this:
* Add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list

## Repository for fit-PC2 users provided by Compulab
deb http://fit-pc2.com/download/ubuntu/dists/lucid binary/
deb-src http://fit-pc2.com/download/ubuntu/dists/lucid source/

Each has several options such as; Binary or source, then package.gz, libva...., linux headers, linux source, mplayer, xserver, etc.
Which do I select for deb and deb-src?
And, is "/etc/apt/sources.list " a file that i ad them physically into?
Thanks

Please open terminal
run #sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
at the bottom of the file add

#################################
## Repository for fit-PC2 users provided by Compulab
deb http://fit-pc2.com/download/ubuntu/dists/lucid binary/
deb-src http://fit-pc2.com/download/ubuntu/dists/lucid source/
#############################

Just copy-paste
Save the file and exit gedit

The process went as instructed but no obvious improvements. "Enable Networking" and "Enable Notifications" are both checked as before without word of wireless selection. The bios is booting everything upon startup except a cdrom and still there is no indication of the pci-e wireless capability.
I have done everything below:

Required system changes
- Add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list
Code:
## Repository for fit-PC2 users provided by Compulab
deb http://fit-pc2.com/download/ubuntu/dists/lucid binary/
deb-src http://fit-pc2.com/download/ubuntu/dists/lucid source/

- Refresh update manager
Code:
sudo apt-get update

- Install kernel image, kernel headers, graphic drivers and media player for HD playback:
Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-34-fitpc2 linux-headers-2.6.35-34-fitpc2 xserver-xorg-video-poulsbo mplayer-vaapi mplayer-skins

- Remove generic image and sources that are not fully compatible with fit-PC2.
Code:
sudo apt-get purge linux-generic linux-image-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-$(uname -r) linux-headers-$(uname -r) && sudo apt-get autoremove

- Restart fit-PC2

I started over again, default bios and everything. After installing, I
accessed /etc/apt/sources.list and looks like this now:

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ isadora main upstream import
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ lucid partner
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ lucid free non-free

#deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu lucid-getdeb apps
#deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu lucid-getdeb games
## Repository for fit-PC2 users provided by Compulab
deb http://fit-pc2.com/download/ubuntu/dists/lucid binary/
deb-src http://fit-pc2.com/download/ubuntu/dists/lucid source/

I then immediately did "sudo apt-get update"

- Install kernel image, kernel headers, graphic drivers and media player for HD playback:
Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-34-fitpc2 linux-headers-2.6.35-34-fitpc2 xserver-xorg-video-poulsbo mplayer-vaapi mplayer-skins

- Remove generic image and sources that are not fully compatible with fit-PC2.
Code:
sudo apt-get purge linux-generic linux-image-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-$(uname -r) linux-headers-$(uname -r) && sudo apt-get autoremove

NOW: Changes are not applied to the monitor because of an x server problem.
Boot up slow
No WiFi card visible.
Please read over my sources list to make sure I cut and pasted what I needed to, how I needed to. If none of this works, I need to know if I've typed something wrong above.

Hi
Can you perform a clean install? I mean format partitions during linux mint installation, and the follow the after installation steps

Wireless card (if there is no hardware failure) should appear upon click on network icon

Thanks for the ideas. My most recent effort was a clean install without partitions, allowing the installing program to select the entire drive deleting anything that was already there. If you could read through my last posts and not find any script errors, then I did it all verbatim. Earlier installations of 10.04 LTS could recognize the existence of my PCI wireless card but needed to be "connected". Mint is not seeing the PCi card at all. This is the "USA-Japan Distribution (32-bit)" ISO.

Re: Wireless card not visable. Half way there

Post by Modern Times »

Now - Wireless Networks checked, but indicating disconnected and shaded. This similar "disconnected" status was achieved while 10.04 LTS was installed.

How can I reconnect this and see available WiFi signals? The provided threaded omni antenna is in place.

Thanks in advance.
