Exact same issue on brandnew Filet2
... with September (latest) BIOS, running fresh Linux Mint Cinnamon (all updates made):
  • --> when powering off: system seems to shutdown ...
  • --> ... but POWER-LED stays lit orange USB ports stay lit green.
  • --> only way to shutdown is pushing the powerbutton long time
  • --> that is no clean way to turn off any computer!
This must be a bad joke ... this issue persists since 5 months now(!)
... and all fitPC-support says is: "we are looking into it"?

wonder if this is a hardware issue & if yes: how we get a replacement?

The amber LED on the power button stays on at S5 (off). This applies to all fitlet2/MBM2 and unfortunately cannot be changed in software.

Please note this does not result in excessive power consumption.

With current BIOS version LED1 and LED2 stay green.
We plan to release a BIOS version that provides distinction between S3 (sleep) and S5 (off) using LED1 and LED2. In the new BIOS they will be off at S5.

this does not result in excessive power consumption
... so you basically say:
we can not really power-off a fitlet2/mbm2?
it will always stay on standby and keep consuming energy - but "not excessively"?

there's a difference between power consumption and no power consumption.

what is the idea behind this? or is it maybe just a fault that gets turned into a feature now?

this is common practice with most electronic equipment, like a TV-set, a PC, etc.etc.

OK. I know about modern s5 state is "shut down", but the USB port is still powered. So when is a good time to unplug the external drive? I don't want power consumption of any sort when I turn off a device. I need this issue resolved so I can move on to the next issue. I want to turn the device off, but also want a hibernate function.

To restate; when I turn a device off, it is undesirable for any electrical connections to be maintained because of my marginally stable power supply with faulty grounds (low rent housing).
I do not want to leave my computer on continuously because of this.
When I turn my computer off, it fails to reboot if left for some period of time close to overnight. Disabling the micro SD card slot in BIOS did not fix this behaviour. This was so consistent I stopped checking and have been working around this since my last post. If I discover a change, I will update this here thread.
The work around is two options.
1 only suspend, reboot will function (swimmingly, I might add)
2 pull the plug out of the wall while the computer is running/(actually just hold power button till it turns off), reboot when plugged back in/(or tap power button)
If I wanted to leave my computer on all the time, I wouldn't need a hibernate state; but I don't, so I do.
So the questions are;
Can you fix the: have to effectively unplug the computer(hold power button till off) to be able to reboot from other than suspend?
When I get the swap partition worked out, will I be able to execute & recover a hibernate state?
Thank you for your time to read this. :ugeek:

i.e. my Mac Mini does not keep external harddrives powerded, when the Mini is powered off ...

But on my fitlet2 the external USB-hard-drive stays powered (even after fitlet2 shutdown), as long as it is connected.
When I shut it down via Linux Mint, and even if I press the power button until the lights go out on the fitlet2 ... still hard-drive is running ... byebye lifespan.
Only way to power-off attached external hard-drives, is is to unplug the fitlet2 from the power-source. This just can't be right.

really ??
I got my Mintbox with Mint installed, like we all did.
as I am used to Raspbian, I installed Debian 9 on my Mintbox.
and my external usbhdd goes to sleep, even when the machine itself is still running.
this is noticeable when I access this usbhdd over a samba-share.
I am referring to a Toshiba Canvio Basic 1 TB usb 3.0

I got my keyboard and mice connected by USB-port in my display, who is connected to one USB2-port on MBM.
When shutting down LM19, the background light of keyboard and mice goes black/off.

My USB-disk connected to one USB3-port keeps running.

I have some script connected to a launcher in panel.
When running that launcher, the script is calling other scripts to change status for LED to OFF, eject my disk, shutting down system.

Ejecting disk seems to be enough for the disk to spin down, but now, when writing this (and my MBM is on) the disk starts again after some minutes. I must post this by now and try more.
Edit: Okey, after shutting down, the LED on my disk (Laice/Porsche) goes on 1 sec every 30 sec but no spin up.

Of course, my disk must always get /dev/sdb since I use that in my script.
