Hi,
Has anyone tested FreeBSD on the IntensePC, does it work out of the box and if not, what is not working?
Thanks in advance!
br,
Chris

We haven't tested yet FreeBSD on the IntensePC. Other users are welcome to share their experience with the FreeBSD setup in this thread

I guess the only problematic piece would be the Wifi chipset. Is it possible to put in a card based on an Atheros chip? These are usually well supported under FreeBSD.
I'm very close to buying one and would report my findings here, but I need to confirm the Wifi chipset issue first ...

You can always exchange the stock WiFi module with your favorite one

Indeed, I got my IntensePC a couple of weeks ago and replaced my aging router/fileserver/thingamabob and so far everything is running smoothly.
Especially pleasant is the RS232 port for debugging or use as a headless terminal.
I had to replace the WLAN+BT module that came with it with an Atheros based card. Sadly, that card is thicker then the other module and I cannot get the clips to really make it stick, I can only hope the hard disk keeps it in place and it doesn't come loose during normal operations.
Code: Select all
ath0: <Atheros 9280> mem 0xe0600000-0xe060ffff irq 17 at device 0.0 on pci4
ath0: [HT] enabling HT modes
ath0: [HT] 2 RX streams; 2 TX streams
ath0: AR9280 mac 128.2 RF5133 phy 13.0
ath0: 2GHz radio: 0x0000; 5GHz radio: 0x00c0
