Drive Spindown

Post by Ron7 »

Regards a factory setup Linux PC2, has anyone confirmed the Hitachi drive and standard Ubuntu distro can be made to spindown? Have issued a

Code: Select all

$ sudo hdparm -B 127 /dev/sda
$ sudo hdparm -S 120 /dev/sda
#wait 10 minutes
$ sudo hdparm -C /dev/sda
active/idle
According to the man pages, this *should* set it to the highest performance that spins down after a 10 minute delay--although a hdparm -I does not confirm this.

I'm administering the box remotely so can't "feel" it to tell if it's spundown or not--I suspect not as the -C query always reports status as active/idle.

So, has anyone got spindown to work under any Linux version with the Hitachi HTS545016B9A300 drive?
