DisplayPort Issues?

Hi
Last piece in my puzzle for a small project using the FitPC3.
One display on DVI (Via HDMI port) - great works a treat.
I wish to have another display on VGA via the DisplayPort connection.
I have bought a VGA converter (DisplayPort to VGA).
It worked initially (after a small tweaking of display settings), I got both displays to show the same res 1240 x something - can not recall at this time.
Tried it again, and I could bearly get 640x400 on the VGA screen..
I tried the setting and it will not let me adjust the res for this screen (greyed out).
I have bought more converters in case its a manufacturer thing, they arrive today.
I have read on other threads that the drivers may need to be updated, can anyone confirm this? I know AMD has updated drivers and theat the DisplayPort was one of the issues that were addressed.
Again any guidance or comments are sought, thanks in advance.
