Can't get any bootloader to boot Linux

I don't what mldel my fit-PC3 is. It's got an AMD G-T56N, two USB 2.0 ports, and two USB 3.0 ports. The screen hangs when both GRUB2 and SYSLINUX/EXTLINUX issue their last writes to the display. It doesn't matter if this is BIOS mode or UEFI mode. The funny thing is that Ubuntu's desktop installation media and Linux Mint 13.2's desktop installation media both work just fine.

In BIOS mode, I can't even get GRUB2 or SYSLINUX to load from my target drive whereas I can boot into them when I'm running the device in UEFI mode.

What gives?

I know that I am 3 years later responding to this, but does this guide work if I set the firmware to use UEFI booting only?
