The error appears when you try to run memtest on fitPC2/i and other machines, http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=549429.
The broken memtest is a second problem, the first problem is why do you run memtest instead of linux in grub boot menu?
Try to reinstall linuxmint following our guide, before the last reboot pleas look at /boot/grub/menu.lst file, it should contain both linux and memtest entries.
The first in linux, second linux recovery mode and last is memtest, the order is important.

Re: Error message when trying to start OS
I did not try to run memtest - I would not even know how to do this - in fact this is the first time I ever even heard about this.
What I did was to reinstall linuxmint following your guide.
However, I am unable to do this again, because all that happens when I try to do so, is this message showing up and all (except the access to the BIOS) being blocked or unresponsive.

Re: Error message when trying to start OS
Can you please attach a screen shot? Are you able to bot in to the Live desktop?

Re: Error message when trying to start OS
The answer is: No - unless you can explain how.gabrielh wrote:... Are you able to bot in to the Live desktop?
I attached a photo "screen shot".
It puzzles me that it turned out mirror-inverted, as, of course, this is not the case on the actual screen.
BTW, if I "press any key to continue", the same message gets added below the first one - and on and on...

Re: Error message when trying to start OS
When you prepare an USB thumb drive with a Linux Mint on it, and boot the FitPC2 from it, then you have a several boot choices. Please select "Try Linux Mint without Installing". If you have the same error, please contact our RMA.

Re: Error message when trying to start OS
I was able to install the OS again and it worked for a few days - before there was a problem with the USB drive.
Now suddenly another issue turned up.
I'm not able to get into the BIOS anymore, and when I start the PC, the first thing that shows up is the following message
"mount: mounting none on /dev failed: No such device
[ 1.734097] input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard as /devices/platform/i8042/se
rio0/input/input2
No init found. Try passing init= bootarg.
BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
<initramfs>"
After this nothing works anymore.

Re: Error message when trying to start OS
Hello again,
Now I have the same issue again as described in my last post above.
I connected another keyboard, which makes no difference this time.
I also switched the connections with the mouse, with the result that in the message it reads "mouse" instead of "keyboard".
Thus it appears that there is an issue with the USB socket or USB connection of the computer, or with the cable which adapts the regular USB connection to mini-USB.
Many thanks in advance!

This results only in different texts in the error messages.
