Dual Ethernet ?

Hello,
Could you please give me some details about this "Dual ethernet" thing, please?
I would like a confirmation: are those two separate devices, or is it one ethernet device with two in/out plugs?
Forgive me for asking such an obvious question (it's not so obvious to me...
)
Nice work with those Fit Pc's... I'll spread the word around me!

It's 2 separate Ethernet lines. Unlike phone where you can have 2 jacks for the same line, in Ethernet each jack has to have its own line.

Well, yes I think you're right, and I'm convinced if you say so.
Anyhow, what about hubs or switches, then? Basicaly my question implied:
Are those dual ethernet like a hub, or two separate ethernet devices?
I just wanted to be 100% sure about it, and you convinced me 99%.

These are 2 independent ports, each having a unique MAC address and a dedicated GbE controller.

Can you independendly set the MAC address within the software driver on the PC?
Yes I already know that by default each network card has a unique MAC address of a definitive number which relates it to the device type and the company that made it, but some cards will allow it.
The reason that I need to know is because I wish to use the Fit-PC2i for dual redundancy purposes and on the network I wish to install it on (an ABB System6 BMS) as it is a requirement. They have previously distributed a ECCP card which automatically implements the same thing (plus a bit more 'jigery-pokery!')

there is no deliberate support for changing mac address.
maybe you can hack the realtek controller.

Are the NICs confirmed to be Realtek?
I'm planning on running a Fit-PC2i (dual NIC) with the Astaro Security Gateway (
http://www.astaro.com) and as far as I know, the Realtek NICs are not supported. (HCL here:
http://www.astaro.com/lists/HCL-ASG-V7.txt)

The NICs in fit-PC2i are Realtek.

RT8139
Do you know which model is used for fit-pc2i?
