Help with 8.04 and recording streaming audio

I am a fan of gnome and have used gnome alsamixer to successfully record audio from the web on other systems. But something is preventing alsamixer from capturing audio from web streams. I determined Gnome alsamixer sees the streams coming from the Digital, but I cannot get the Rec[ord] checkbox to appear there. I'm also working with Audacity.

Is it an issue with alsamixer, or is there another tool/mixer that will permit this capability?
