Ubuntu 8.04 CD not seeing internal hard drive?

I am opting to try and get a downloaded ISO copy of Ubuntu 8.04 installed on an internal Samsung SATA drive I picked up.
Windows XP w/SP2 and newer versions of Ubuntu all see the drive, just 8.04-3 from ubuntu.com cannot detect the drive when installed internally, but can see it through USB 2.0.
What is the magical setting in BIOS, or otherwise, to permit "older" versions of operating systems to see this drive.
The newer dban won't acknowledge it, either.
Nothing, thus is broken, just need to learn the right BIOS settings to get dban and 8.04 to see the drive when installed internally.
Thanks.
Scott
