Would a key combination be easier ?
[Alt]+[SysRq]+[K]
(Kill all processes on the current virtual console)
Or writing a script that restart GDM 30 seconds after having switched the fit-pc on ?
How to boot Ubuntu 8.04 Gnome without a Monitor?
Re: How to boot Ubuntu 8.04 Gnome without a Monitor?
I'll experiment and see what works
Re: How to boot Ubuntu 8.04 Gnome without a Monitor?
I've just tried the key combination on a fit-PC running Ubuntu 9.04 but it doesn't work
The key combination works on all my PCs running Ubuntu 9.04 but not my fit-PCs !
But they are running Ubuntu 9.04 though. So maybe it'll work with your Ubuntu 8.04 ?
Otherwise try also : [CTRL]+[ALT]+[Backspace]
This key combination should still work on Ubuntu 8.04 (it's been disabled on Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10).

Re: How to boot Ubuntu 8.04 Gnome without a Monitor?
Has sadler said "nomachine" is the best solution to your issue. I used it under ubuntu 8.04 and 9.04 and it works perfectly. If you have any question about installing "nomachine" I can help you.
