Reinstall to FitPC factory setting for Ubunto 9.10

Ubunto offered me the option to got to 10.04 so I foolishly installed it 
Having tried to read through the 10.04 posts and having tried various fixes i can not get the desktop to start at all (i can see the boot messages ok and I can get to netboot via recovery mode.
How do completely reinstall to the factory settings or resinstall 9.04?
I have no data on my device.
Ive tried looking on lines for instructions to install 9.04 from scratch.
USB seems an option but I have a mac and there seems limited instructions to creating a bootable disk.
Currently my device is pretty useless now so any help would be much appreciated.
