Problem with playing a .wmv file in Windows 8

I have a recent .wmv file that I downloaded from the internet. When I try to play it in Windows 8 using the included Windows 8 video app, I get some kind of defective playback that makes me think that the gma500 driver, which is a version of the Windows 8 graphics driver, is basically the Linux kernel with its slightly imperfect rendering engine and that the Windows 8 video app is basically converting from .wmv to .flv before rendering the video.

What is more, I found a version of Linux mplayer (called MPC-HC) ported to 32-bit Windows 8 and installed it on my z550 system, and, voilĂ , I have smooth playback on Windows 8.

I thought you guys might find these observations interesting.

Well, actually, wmplayer.exe is still to be found in Windows 8, if you look hard enough, and it does the .wmv file as well as the Linux mplayer clone.

And, yes, in Windows 7, wmplayer.exe may be less than willing to do .wmv files.

Say, next thing you know, Intel will be paying Compulab royalties for stealing their design concepts in their NUC format computers (nyuck, nyuck).
