Display reports incompatible signal when XP install goes gui

Reposting from another topic -- is this a dumb question? Unworthy of response?

I'm having this problem with a OEM(Dell) xp home install dvd. My Sharp Aquos display reports an incompatible signal at the time that the windows install goes from text mode to gui.

this same display works great with fit-pc to Ubuntu 9.10.

The xp install disk is before any service packs ... i'm pretty sure.

Problem occurs prior to reboot, no opportunity to boot from hdd or enter safe mode.

any ideas?

The problem is not familiar. Maybe you can prepare an image of standard XP Home SP3 installation and try with that.

You may also want to try starting up in VGA mode - it could be that the resolution your Fit PC is using from startup is incompatible with that specific monitor.

(To start up in VGA mode press F8 when booting up).

Thanks for the idea, tried it. I took longer to get the "incompatible" message, but the result was the same.

I'll stick with linux.

Thanks again.
