Boot from USB DVD drive not working

Hello, I am trying to install win7 from a USB DVD drive. I currently have Ubuntu installed. The fit will boot to the HD every time whether or not a bootable DVD is in the USB drive and the USB DVD drive is higher in the boot order in the bios. I have tried excluding the HD from the bootable device list but then get the "No operating system found" message. I had a different HD in before (with a corrupted install of win7) that was letting me boot from the USB DVD drive.

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

See if the USB DVD gets enough power. Did you connect it with dual-USB cable? (One for power, other for data). Usually when USB DVD does not get enough power, it will spin but not read the disk.
