Boot from MiniSD cardreader?
Boot from MiniSD cardreader?
Can the Fit-PC2 boot from the built in MiniSD card slot on the front?
Re: Boot from MiniSD cardreader?
I found the answer shortly after I posted... it cannot.
Here is the manual (english) for the Fit-PC2 where I found my answer.

Re: Boot from MiniSD cardreader?
One other question... is the inability to boot from the MiniSD slot a limitation of the US-15W chipset? Or is it a feature that could be implemented in the BIOS in the future?
It seems that since the SD slot is not able to read cards over 2GB (SDHC) then it isn't really that viable as a media storage expansion option. It could be better utilized as a boot device allowing the internal HD (if present) as data only and no OS.
Just thinking out loud (looking into using it as a HTPC by loading XBMC onto it which is based on Ubuntu - xbmc.org)

In 2 words: it's technically possible to add this support, but costs too much.

Re: Boot from MiniSD cardreader?
That's too bad. Maybe the "Grub on HD with OS on SD" method will work out. Thanks.
Re: Boot from MiniSD cardreader?
I just get my FitPC2i yesterday and in the BIOS settings I can see the SD as a boot option.
So... is there anything new here or does everyone already has this option ? (which would be a kind of "fake" option then)
Anyway, as soon as I can get a 2Gb mini SD I will give it a try...

Re: Boot from MiniSD cardreader?
Fit-PC2i starting from revision 1.2 and Fit-PC2 starting from revision 1.4 support SD boot. My previous reply was before those revisions were made.

Yes , thanks, I've read some other post here :

Re: Boot from MiniSD cardreader?
By the way : I seems it supports boot on SDHC
Does this mean there is no longer the 2Gb limit ?
Can I buy any 4Gb or 8Gb SDHC to boot ?
