OpenGL (apps,games) failed

Post by gashiss »

hello, I 'm using fitpc2 with winXP pro , the latest IEGD drivers,
but I can't launch any OpenGl application.

Is openGL not supported by this driver under windows xp?

We test with Google Earth in OpenGL mode. It does load with IEGD.

It's true, google earth worked...
Okay, I didn't plan to use my fit pc for gaming, but I tried out of curiosity to ,see if opengl was really compatible/usable,
with half life 1, quake1 and quake 2, those 3 games work in software mode (all of them quits weirdly when you play too long) and when you switch to open GL they have firstly strange glitches
all over the screen ,then they quit.

So I stated drivers were perfectible in some way, because those games play normaly on another windows xp system.

Thanks for replying so quickly anyway

That is sad... No proper OpenGL under windows XP with IEGD drivers...

So im bound to use a dual boot option? Look at these video's!
Flying-Dutchman wrote:Well I play quake 3 very often, so i hope this is also possible with the Fit-PC-2 on windows XP with the IEGD drivers...

Anybody got any decent artefact free framerates in Quake 3 and a score on CineBench R10 OpenGL under windows XP?

When the final version of the Fit-PC-2i will come out I will defenently buy it since it is a perfect server for me. But I hope they will continue to work on the 3D part of the drivers at Tungsten Graphics or get a licence for the official driver!

Imagination Technologies made a beautifull GPU with the PowerVR SGX 535 (read GMA500)
Source http://www.imgtec.com/PowerVR/sgx.asp:
"The family incorporates the second-generation Universal Scalable Shader Engine (USSE2™), with a feature set that exceeds the requirements of OpenGL 2.0 and Microsoft Shader Model 3, enabling 2D, 3D and general purpose (GP-GPU) processing in a single core."

You should post errors message or future errors linked to opengl
problems you encounter in XP,
so Devers could help with a new driver.

Where should I post them?
Do you have a Quake 3 screenshot with the latest IEGD drivers under XP?
What is your best cinebench R10 OpenGL score so far under XP?

I told you devers(official or not) would eventually want to pimp the drivers.

So for a matter of search facility, I think we should regroup bugs and document them (os version, name of application etc).
So let's use this post for this.

The ubuntu drivers are told to be better.
(and I think since it's gnu/opensource/linux,
accessibility would be the first to be on top.)

For opengl, I think, like you suggested,
a dual boot would be the best solution for gaming.

-Do you have a Quake 3 screenshot with the latest IEGD drivers under XP?

I'll try do one soon.

What is your best cinebench R10 OpenGL score so far under XP?

don't know I'll do the test so we can see.

have a nice day.

This time I post a quake 3 arena screenshot:
Yes it's working this time (xp got updated since glitches version),
but this one only at 640x480 resolution
(very dark, can't have satisfaying brightness)
try 800x600 resulted in glitches 1 time, and 2nd time a big reboot.
Players, try unbuntu drivers.

Thank you very much Gashiss for the effort!

The screenshot looks good. How is the FPS in the timedemo (Q3Demo001 / FOUR.DM_68) ?
(cg_drawfps 1)
Does changing the brightness ingame give a response?
I would recommend using ioQuake 3 1.34 rc-3 (Current version 1.36 hogs FPS in many scenes)

I don't expect it to run proper beyond 640 pixels due to the limited computational power of the GPU. But with the right tweaks I assume it will work with a playble FPS/visual quality. http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Quake3/FPS_visuals.html

Yes, i'm a noob when it comes to using Linux (way to much commandline), so for all the tasks I want to use it for as a server and HTPC, the as ever GUI friendly windows will be my choise.
Since it will be a "mission critical" server the double boot will only be for testing if I manage to get it to work properly (tried to play ioquake 3 before on ubuntu, but so much commandline and futhermore the preformance was 40% worse and ther was no mouse support). Also they use Mobilin. I wonder what to expect of it...

When I accuire the Fit-PC-2i final version I will keep it updated here and report the findings and bugs in this tread!

I have indeed good experience with dev'ers; my VooDoo 5 5500 is still in good shape and good performance under many games, just with the custom dev drivers :).
http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/3dfx/voodoo5 ... windowsxp/

Do you already know if a team is already working on it somewhere?

I wonder what the new Cinebench R10 OpenGL score will be :)

Also to test OpenGL 2.0 you could use http://dee.cz/lightsmark/ and http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

okay none but ozone 3d worked out:

so I give you a screenshot of the first time I launched it (too slow, so I finally changed the resolution, note the similiraty palette garbage opengl):

and the score:

I used the last( released yersteday) iegd drivers under windows xp,
i don't know why it's marked to be gma 500, I suppose that's vcard ignature.
Have a good day flying dutchman.
