I have combined my diskless Fit-PC2 C1600 with the harddisk WD500BEVT and have involuntary tried several scenarios:
1) Ubuntu 8.04LTS DVD cannot not detect a harddisk
2) Ubuntu 9.04 does sometimes
3) Ubuntu 9.10 does
4) openSuse 11.1 also does
The installation of Ubuntu 8.04 and 9.04 stops from time to time and proceeds after pressing the Num-Lock-Key. In addition I can't step over 480p with my 1920x1200 50/60Hz display HD2441W, even with the latest BIOS from 21/07/09.
Are there any ideas what is wrong?

My modiefied BIOS settings are:
* Large Disk Access Mode [Other] DOS
* Installed O/S [Other] Windows...
* NumLock [Off] On
* Intel Virtualization Technology [Enabled] Disabled

No idea, does not matter.

My warning: Ubuntu 8.04.3 and openSUSE 10.3 does not support the 500GB HDD.

The display problem is gone, either the HDMI ports are not DVI compatible or the HDMI cable is out of spec., the DVI port of the monitor works (VESA).

I'd reset your LBA settings back to the default and try again. Actually I'd probably reset all of the BIOS settings to default.

harddisk identification for 8.04 solved, dedicated psb driver will be installed instead of vesa.
