Latest xf86 fbdev gives better performance

Post by vtailor »

You might want to get the source code for the 4.4 version of fbdev_drv.so and compile it for Ubuntu/Mint that uses fbdev or Slackware. Slackware-current with the new version of fbdev is clearly better than 4.3.

hm, I updated xserver-xorg-video-fbdev from 4.2 -> 4.4 (debian jessie). For me, it's not better. Scrolling and Moving windows seem to be a little bit slower than before. At all, glxgears don't work anymore?

`--> glxgears
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

addition: Sorry, the debian installer renamed my xorg.conf to xorg.conf.old. xorg did autodetection on every start and used modesetting instead of fbdev. I re-renamed xorg.conf and now fbdev is used again. Now I have the 'old feeling' back. Scrolling and moving windows are smooth again! Also glxgears works again
