Playback with internal and external subtitles

Post by pest »

Hello,

after I've not been able to get the WinXP version working with subtitles and Win7 was working but too slow I switched back to the original installation of Ubuntu.

Now after a while h264 seems to play just fine but I can't get mplayer to load subtitles neither mkv-internal nor external sub/idx ones.

Trying stuff like (and some more)

Code: Select all

mplayer -alang ger -vobsub FILE -vobsubid 0 FILE.mkv
mplayer FILE.mkv -sub FILE.idx
mplayer FILE.mkv -sub FILE
for a file using external subs in sub/idx format and internal:

Code: Select all

mplayer FILE.mkv -alang en -slang eng
Console output has stuff like

Code: Select all

[mkv] Track ID 4: subtitles (S_TEXT/ASS) "English", -sid 0, -slang eng
Telling me that I'm not exactly wrong about what I'm doing...

and alike would not work for some reason. Starting through the console I can see an error:

Code: Select all

[mkv] Warning: No BlockDuration for subtitle track found.

SUB: Could not determine file format
Cannot load subtitles: ./FILE.sub
Is anyone aware of that problem? I haven't been able to track down some useful info on google for some reason :?

Thanks!

Try new Ubuntu 9.10 with updated mplayer for HD playback
http://www.fit-pc2.com/wiki/index.php?t ... buntu_9.10

As I understand current media player (mplayer-vaapi) supports subtitles in contrast to previous versions.
Compulab's Linux support

Hi,

I got a fitpc2i this week (not pilot batch).

Installed Ubuntu Linux 9.10 according to http://www.fit-pc2.com/wiki/index.php?t ... buntu_9.10 - everything working decently except for two things: real digital audio (not digital transmission of a non native AC3 signal) and the thing for this thread:

Still no subtitles (internal or external) via mplayer-vaapi (subtitles can be chosen but don't show).

In addition to that no OSD (on screen display) of mplayer is visible at all - even activated it via GUI instead of the "o" key.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Frank
