Keyboard lock up during OEM XP Install

I have a problem trying to re-install XP with the supplied CD. The usb keyborad quits working at the "Press Enter" to continue, "R" for repair or F3 to exit. Unplugging and reinserting does nothing. Resetting the BIOS to defaults does nothing. The keyboard is working with the preinstalled HD but at this time I am unable to reload from the CD.
