I am installing a Rev 1.4 fitpc2 in a large metal cabinet with an open back. I plan on attaching the fitpc to the side of the cabinet to both keep the install need looking and take advantage of the large heat-sink capability of such a structure. Are there mounting holes for such an install? Will I need to fabricate a bracket?

I wish there were more than just a front shot and a drawing of the back available on the web site.

There are 3 small holes on the bottom of Fit-PC2 case. They are made to support VESA mounting bracket sold for Fit-PC2. You can use them.

You would want to couple the top side of fit-PC to the side wall of the cabinet for best thermal conduction. I suggest a U shape bracket hugging the fit-PC, or a metal band.

That's kind of what I was thinking too. Thank you for confirming.

This install is to run a school bell system. So it will not be running much more than an cron job and SQLlite most of the time. There will also be a web interface for setting bell times. I don't really expect that much heat build up. However it will be running 24-7. I plan on using an intell SSD so there will be no moving parts. Current plan is to use CentOS.

I tried an experiment that had a noticeable improvement:

I removed the wooden shelf from the cupboard I keep the FitPC2i in and replaced it with a metal wire shelf. This allows the unit to be air-cooled from the bottom as well as the top.

As for the suggestion of using a metal bracket over the top of the FitPC: just a thought - a metal bracket is (probably) an aluminum strip that wraps around the top of the unit to the bottom. Isn't that exactly what the case is anyway?

The idea is to have the top of the fit-PC2 touching a metal wall - so heat is conducted directly into the much larger wall.
