Underclocking to use in small closed space

Hi All,

I was planning to build a carputer for a long time. It seems that the closest thing to my needs it the Fit-PC2.

I have only one concern, I really am not sure if it won't overheat in a small closed space. So, I'd like to ask if it possible to underclock it to get rid of the overheating problem if it does exist, though.

You may disable some unused features to bring power consumption down to below 5W (WiFi, display, ethernet, audio). I'm not sure it's relevant in your case.

If you install SSD instead of HDD - something you would like to do in a carputer anyway - you are not likely to experience overheating issue.

I have bought one unit and I have receaved this week, I want to use it as a cash point in a shop, and in the first day it has workeds fine, fast enough to use our software and surf the web for over 13h of non stopping use, but temperature in CPU is quite high, over 77º C. Is this temparature too high? or do you belive is Ok?. Any idea for reducing temp in addition to disable some unused features ( I tryed disabling WIFI and sound card, but it descended only 1 or 2 ºC ) thanks for your help.

The CPU can work at 77C forever.
You should be more concerned about your HDD - check with S.M.A.R.T. that temperature is not above 60C. If so - consider moving to SSD or add some venting.

Thaks for your quick answer, the HD temp is lower than 60, usually is about 48ºC-50ºC, after 40h of continuous working is not increassing , in fact just now is at 48ºC. Wich CPU temp do you belive shouldn't be exceded?

You do not have any environmental issue, but your specific system has a CPU thermal coupling issue - the thermal pad is misaligned.
While the system is likely to work this way for very long, you are advised to RMA the unit for replacement.
Normally CPU would be around 60C in these conditions.
