Will the device boot and operate from the Mini-SD slot without a hard drive? The application I am looking to use need enough space for the Windows OS and a small application. Everything else is Web Based.

Not right now. Boot from SD is not supported with current BIOS. If in the future BIOS is changed to add this support, then it would be possible.

There is no plan to support boot from SD in the near future.

That's really too bad. Alternatively, is it possible to access the PATA interface to use an internal CompactFlash drive? [IIUC, the chipset only provides PATA so the fit-PC2 uses a PATA-to-SATA bridge on top]

Actually a great way to address this problem would be to get "coreboot" (formerly LinuxBIOS) working on those boxes.

You can also boot from a USB memory stick, but perhaps it is not big enough for what you need.
