ssd performance?

Do you mind to perform some testing under Windows?
For Windows there are a lot of utilities like CrystalDiskMark, HDTach, etc. that should give us some more information.

You can try Windows XP Home, but it does not really matter which one.

I got anything between 70 MB/s and 90 MB/s, depending on the SSD used.

FWIW, I replaced the SSD with a regular 2.5" 120GB HDD (Seagate ST9120823ASG 7200.2), and retested under Ubuntu.

Got the exact same results as I did with the SSD: about 60MB/sec max (seq. read). This is same result as noted in this post with the CompuLab stock 2.5" 160GB SATA HDD.

Strange that I did not see any performance improvement between the SSD and HDD. As mentioned, the same SSD in other machines can do almost 200MB/sec. In summary, I was not able to reproduce your 90MB/sec SSD read spec under Linux.

You tested using CrystalDiskMark / Windows. Could the bottleneck be a driver/OS issue?

Indeed it could be a driver/OS issue. This is why I still suggest you try it with Windows.

you will never get anything above 90-100MB/s, because limitation of the chipset
