We are going to offer a solution for auto-on through distributors and for volume orders.
Check with your fit-PC2 distributor about availability.
Auto Resume on power loss
Re: Auto Resume on power loss
What do you mean through distributors and volume orders? I would like to use your box as a home automation server and it definitely needs to restart on power loss. Will I be able to buy one of auto resume units on a single order basis?
Re: Auto Resume on power loss
Yes, I have the same question as hucker - power-loss restart is crucial for all kinds of always-on solution, for which a 6W box seems to be made for.
Could you also provide more information on how this extra feature will look like? Will it be a separate piece of hardware, some kind of an external adaptor?
And how much will it cost?
Thanks for answers.

Re: Auto Resume on power loss
The auto-on feature is transparent to the user and does not cost extra.
Make sure to check with your distributor it is present.

This is regarding the boot or resume at power-on feature. We build scientific instrumentation and I can see potential for the Fit-2 for remotely managing data aquistion systems. For that market boot at power on is an esential function. Of course we use a UPS but when the batteries are exhausted the system must come back up without user intervention. For us, not having this as an integrated part of the system is a show stopper. My question is: If I purchase some of these units (in USA) at the end of May when the Wi-Fi units can be ordered, will they have this feature incorporated?

Re: Auto Resume on power loss
I also intended to offer support for Fit-PC 2 as an official Meteohub platform. Many Meteohub users have Fit-PC Slim running and Fit-PC 2 will be a fine successor in general. But without autostart after power-loss that will not make much sense as users have these units in remote places to log weather data. As Meteohub users buy their hardware separately, I would need some more detailed information how users around the world can make sure to get an autostart enabled version of Fit-PC 2 and where to get this.
From my perspective not having this as a default feature is a design flaw that should be eliminated from all Fit-PC 2. I can't image what not having this feature should be good for.

Re: Auto Resume on power loss
I agree that having the auto-on feature as a default is preferred for many fit-PC2 usage patterns.
A scenario where the auto-on is not wanted is if you shut down the PC wanting it to stay that way. If power cut-off, when power resumes the PC will be turned on.
We do not do the fix globally because it involves extra work and will require us to make fit-PC2 more expensive. Many users do not care about this functionality.

Re: Auto Resume on power loss
Couldn't be a BIOS setting, like with most modern motherboards? With three settings:
- never power on automatically
- always power on after power has been applied
- power on automatically only if last known state was "on"
I thought such a feature was a standard thing these days...

Re: Auto Resume on power loss
This brings up an interesting question. I've worked on a few dozen computers myself and the bios chip is always easily visible because:
a) it's in a socket so it can be extracted,
b) it's bigger (or 'older') than any other chip on the board,
c) it's got a shiny reflective plate on it saying what sort of software is loaded on it.
I've looked over your pics of both sides of your motherboard for this computer... There's no room for a socket of course, but I can't see any sort of 'old' chip on there at all, and no shiny reflective stamp on a nand chip either....
So, what bios are you using, and where have you hidden it?
