Fitlet2 serial port naming problem (linux mint)

Post by jgsutton »

I have a Fitlet2 recently purchased through fit-iot.com and I'm struggling with the tty port naming problem (missing device node /dev/ttyS6). I found the "temporary solution" for the Atom CPU at http://www.fit-pc.com/wiki/index.php/Li ... h_Atom_CPU. Although I have the Celeron processor I decided to try the oem kernel suggested on the wiki. This worked and I now have the /dev/ttyHS0 and /dev/ttyHS1 devices. I'm also able to use the on-board RS232 port to communicate with an external device.

However, every time I power cycle the Fitlet2 the device associated with the serial port switches between ttyHS0 and ttyHS1. This does not happen with just a reboot but only when the power is turned off. Needless to say this make reliable operation difficult.

Two questions:

1) is there a more "permanent" solution to missing device node /dev/ttyS6 bug?

2) Does anyone understand what's happening with the switching of the device node after a power cycle and what can be done to stop it.

My configuration:

CPU Celeron J3455 [CJ3455]
RAM 4 GB [D4]
Storage M.2 SATA 64 GB [M64S]
WiFi 802.11ac + BT (Intel 8260AC) [WI8260]
RS232 adapter cable

BIOS version: FLT2.0.46.01.00
Linux Mint 19.2, xfce addition

Any help working through this issue will be greatly appreciated.
