IPC3 make high frequency noise listening to inet radio

Hi all,

I bought an IPC3 in december 2017 and I'm overall happy with the IPC3 (using LinuxMint 18.3 ). But sometimes the IPC3 makes high frequency low noise. But I didn't know whats causing the noise. Now today I wanted to listen to an internet radio stream and the noise was constantly there. Downloading a huge file from the net stops the noise. After the download finished the noise is back...

Thus my assumption is that the IPC3 has some problems if only few kilobytes are received from the net (1GBit ethernet interface)! Any idea what can cause this low high frequency noise???

are you shure, it is your IPC3 ?
I bought my IPC3 due to the passive cooling and expected quietness.
And indeed, my IPC3 itself is absolutely quiet regardless of the running Job.

But the SSD's, I bought separately are not.
The inductors of the SSD's are whimpering mainly when writing.
The amount of noise depends heavily on the type of SSD.
My M2 B-key (I have a Version 1.1) is the one making the main noise.
My mSata SSD is acceptable.

The loudest part of my system is currently anyway the monitor, maybe the backlight LED.

well I'm not sure, but there are some signs that its (also) the IPC3:
1. if I change from one virtual desktop to another the noise appears for about 1-2 seconds
2. as I wrote listening to an internet radio stream produces this noise
3. under load (more than 1 core is busy, overall load 40%-100%) the noise stops

The main SSD is a "Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB, EMT03B6Q" which seems to produce noise if small amount of data is written to it. Under load much data is written to it and the complete system is nearly quite.

Any ideas?

Hello Stefan,

I can only say, that my IPC3 (V1.1) with Windows 10 64 bit professional an 2 SSD's does not show this behaviour.

I'm pretty shure that the "rest noise" in my system is from my monitor and one of the SSD's. It was a surprise to me, that a system with no rotating parts still makes noise (in my case Monitor and SSD), although on a very low level. In my last system, this was completely masked by the fan.

Since my system is older (~6/2017) and has a different operation system, I can not comment any further. Maybe other users can ?

This looks for a question directly for Compulab.
They helped me very well with my software question described in the last thread.

@Stefen - We are unfamiliar with such constant noise related to ethernet connectivity or a part on the board that should produce such noise.
I'd suggest swapping peripherals to eliminate the source of the problem.
