Remote power button connector
Remote power button connector
What's that, possible usage scenarios?
Re: Remote power button connector
Suppose you build a dispensing machine that has a fitlet inside. You want the technician to be able to power-cycle the fitlet without opening rhe machine or disconnecting it from power. For that you connect an accessible power button by wire to fitlet's remote power connector.
Re: Remote power button connector
Another use case would be an embedded high availability server.
For example, say you have a remote server. You also have a router / broadband MODEM that can ping your fitlet server. If the fitlet server quits responding to pings, (or other application verification), it power cycles the fitlet.
Several companies make network controllable A.C. outlets with ping capability.
But, they are in the $200 to $1,500 range. (Depends on number of ports, and additional features like built in network switch or serial console server.)

Re: Remote power button connector
So you mean the modem located on the same LAN as the remote server, and the last one can be booted by a switch like an extra transistor, what would be the interface to push the ping failure response to initiate the server reboot? Or, is that already an integrated module that is able to switch the power programmatically?Arwen wrote:...say you have a remote server. I don't know how such remote power would work with the fitlet. Just describing senerios.
My experience is with devices such as these;

There are lots of devices like this. Some years back I even found a single A.C. outlet controlled from a network port. It also had the ping feature, (which would detect lack of ping as a trigger to power cycle device).
