Fitlet-XA10: USB 3 (back) detected as USB 2 port

Post by bqtran »

I just bought a fitlet-XA10 (very happy customer so far) and connected a usb drive to the back blue port when I noticed it's running at USB 2 speeds. Here is the output of my lsusb -t:

Code: Select all

/: Bus 04.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=ehci-pci/2p, 480M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M
/: Bus 03.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=ehci-pci/2p, 480M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M
        |__ Port 1: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Printer, Driver=usbfs, 12M
/: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci_hcd/2p, 5000M
/: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci_hcd/2p, 480M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 6, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=usb-storage, 480M
I am running Debian Jessie (kernel 4.2.8-1) and am booting off of the SD card. Does anyone have any ideas on getting the back port working as USB 3 as it should? The system only sees the front blue port as USB 3.

Thanks.

Is the linux expert around? I'm suspecting that the port is actually a USB 2 port and not a USB 3 port on this model, unless there's some type of bios setting I've toggled incorrectly.

I had a similar (same?) problem on my iA10. A USB3 thumb drive would be seen as USB2 on the back blue port. I noticed the drive case was tight against the power cord when inserted, so I pulled off the sliding shield so it fit without pressing against the cord. Now it was seen as USB3.

fmk's solution did not solve my issue; I've added some electrical tape around the port to help shield it and it's still coming up as a USB 2 port (with no usb cables/drives inserted even).

Any other thoughts?

Just to make it clearer - USB 3.0 ports integrate both, USB3.0 full-duplex differential signalling lines and the legacy USB2.0 half-duplex communication signals. These are completely different lines.

Therefore USB2.0 device connected to USB3.0 port will operate on USB2.0 signals.

What happen with other USB3.0 devices, flash drives?

Thanks to mbirger's question, I've attached usb devices to both blue ports and ran lsusb -t again:

/: Bus 04.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci_hcd/2p, 5000M
|__ Port 1: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=usb-storage, 5000M
|__ Port 2: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=usb-storage, 5000M
/: Bus 03.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci_hcd/2p, 480M
/: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=ehci-pci/2p, 480M
|__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M
/: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=ehci-pci/2p, 480M
|__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M
|__ Port 1: Dev 4, If 0, Class=Printer, Driver=usblp, 12M

Looks like both are being recognized as USB 3. My misunderstanding is that they were supposed to be on separate buses, but it looks as though they are on the same one.

Thanks for the help!
