MintBox Mini freezes on Suspend-to-RAM

My MintBox Mini runs fine under Linux Mint 17.2 (Rafaela) MATE except for the Suspend (suspend to RAM) function.
It suspends to RAM correctly, but on resume the power switch light flickers briefly before the system locks up completely and does not respond to holding the power switch for > 5sec, so I have to restart by unplugging the power supply.
I had the same problem with the original Linux Mint 17.1 MATE that came preloaded and also with 17.2 Cinnamon and Ubuntu 15.04. Switching from the proprietary video driver to the open source one does not help and neither does trying to resume without any peripherals attached.
Hibernation (suspend to disk) works perfectly.
Suspend and Hibernate both work fine in Linux Mint 17.2 MATE on my MintBox 2 (not MintBox Mini).
Has anybody had the same experience and/or any solution?
