WiFi Adapter RTL8187 or RT3090??

I'm trying to figure out how to get WPA/WPA2 working with Ubuntu 9.10.
I've found posts about updated drivers for the RT3090 Chipset (http://www.fit-pc2.com/forum/viewtopic. ... Ubuntu+WPA), but Ubuntu loads the RTL8187 driver, and when I open the cases of my Fit2s, the chipset is marked "8187", so it looks pretty convincingly like my Fit2s have the RTL8187 chipset in their WiFi Adapters.
What is going on here? Are the Fit2s distributed with two different cards? Is RT3090 driver supposed to support the 8187 chipset, too?
The bottom-line question is: how do I get WPA working?
Any clarification would be appreciated!
Thanks for any help!
