Re: I think I know one major incompatibility
You must know that the realtek web site has an updated sound driver compatible with Windows 8. And, it is worthless, because it insists on putting out "CD sound" at 41000 bps, while the fit-pc2i is rated at 24000. And, I know I have my analog "speaker" jack plugged in to the right hole in back, beca...

I think I know one major incompatibility
For Windows 8, the MINIMUM spdif data rate is 44000. None of this "studio quality" 22000 stuff for Microsoft. So, you have at least two options: Lobby Microsoft to add an update to "studio quality" for Windows 7 driver compatibility. Make your own sorta compatible driver for Windows 8. Suggest USB s...

Re: One of the final words on fitness and all that
Let's see, what was it I forgot to mention? All the things that work so badly on Windows 8 and even Windows 7 work pretty well on both RIPLinuX and Slackware 13.7 in which you used package tool pkgtool to delete the vesa graphics driver and you compiled and installed fbdev_drv.so to load instead. En...

One of the final words on fitness and all that
I found it on an internet forum: The remedy to all or most of those streaming video problems in Linux. Install Slackware 13.7, use pkgtool to remove all the kernels, install the Zenwalk 7.2 kernel (until they decide to ruin it), and bring in all the other apps you like. Not only does that fix things...

Latest Intel Windows 7 display driver on Windows 8
It works. It also demonstrates that the flash plugins waste computing power, while silverlight gives full screen, full motion, sound in synchronization on the z510.

Re: Windows 8 anyone?
Bad advice on that internet forum: Use administrator privilege to install the most recent Intel EMGD driver, and it all goes smoothly without any compatibility issues. I am talking about going to the Intel web site for the gma500 and downloading from there. The older EMGD driver from the fit pc down...

Windows 8 anyone?
Duh, no control panel, or really hard to locate. OK, Windows 8 comes with a vesa only driver for the gma 500. You locate a forum on installing the EMGD driver for W8, and the advice is to run the latest Intel EMGD driver (from October, 2012) in Windows XP-SP3 compatibility mode. Which seems to work,...

xfce not recommended for z530 fit-pc2
The xfce 'terminal' program causes the cpu meter to show continuous usage that doesn't settle down. You can see this effect in full slackware running xfce applications. If you substitute a custom-compiled version of lxterminal, which has the same capabilities as terminal, the continuous usage spikes...

z510 fit-pc2 running full screen full speed using xine
I am enclosing a screen photo of xine running streaming video and audio on my z510 with perfect continuous motion and excellent sound synchronization under RIPLinuX, a simplified slackware derivative with its own fbdev_drv.so graphics and the 3.4.8 zenwalk kernel. What is annoying is that results va...

Re: Minor re-wiring suggestion for HDMI compatibility
The analog output works in Linux, and on occasion in Windows 7, but it is very slow, so that lipsyncing does not occur. The SPDIF converter is much faster, and allows lipsyncing. The USB device nearly allows lipsyncing. You must not use the fit-pc2 as a media box, or you would notice. All these prob...
