Note to the Gabbai: Compulab version of android for the x86
There are asus and hp and other versions of android for the x86, and I have been puzzling over why Compulab never weighed in with a version of their own. The reasons I say this are that I know it would be an inexpensive development project assigned to, say, a Technion Computer Science Department cla...

Re: Android x86 on fit-pc2 z510
I think I know the basis for the difference between how the fit-pc2 and the fit-pc3 run android. The android for x86 kernel has drivers for the Intel Sandybridge and the AMD E450 built in, so they don't show up on an 'lsmod', but the kernel does not have the gma500_gfx kernel module. So, they rely o...

Re: Android x86 on fit-pc2 z510
For your interest: If you change part of the kernel command line to: vga=792 video=1360x768 you end up with a double android logo, which is not what you want, but might tell a kernel expert how to get the desired result. Also, under android, looking up a youtube video involves using the browser to l...

Android x86 on fit-pc2 z510
Actually, I am running this from a flash stick on the z510. It shows about 500 mb of available ram, and the analog sound output definitely works. The resolution is not one of those things you can reach from a user level, but it looks like 1024x768. In other words, a 43 monitor should do the job. Now...

Re: I think I found it
I did some testing in RIPLinuX to determine a "good" resolution for the z510, and I discovered that the gma500_gfx module wasn't able to handle 1900, and 1366 caused streaming flash problems. So, I settled on 1600x900, which actually gives rather good results. On the possibility that Windows 8 has t...

z510 with realtek3090 running RIPLinuX in 1600x900
It doesn't quite manage in full 1920x1080, but this works fine in 1600x900 and shows a 97% cpu utilization with lip synchronization while playing the popout window shown in the png screen photo.

Re: I think I found it
My guess is that the folks at Microsoft are very interested in a z510-friendly version of Windows 8, because of its close relationship to running Windows 8 on an x86 smartphone, and who cares if power shell and line printer are not loaded? Something about the Realtek3090(1T/1R). The minute I install...

Suggestion: Morex-style mini-ITX accommodation
General question that keeps coming to mind: If fitpc++ is roughly the size of a mini-ITX board, why not screw the case together, Morex-style, with screws going through the mounting holes and the face opening the size of the spring-steel backplate of a mini-ITX board, for "compatibility" as an extra ...

Re: I think I found it
OK, the value z510 with a realtek 3090 1R/1T installed, and working again on the great question: Resolved that suitably limited Windows 8 works nearly as well as Windows 7 SP1. At any rate, I managed to thread the antenna wire from the mini-pciexpress slot out to the back of the case, with a loop of...

I think I found it
If you go to the Windows 8 features section of the control panel, and you turn off the Power Shell, memory usage goes down from exactly 1G out of 2G to slightly over 500M out of 2G. Did you know this already? I am hoping soon to have the only fit-pc2 z510 with a realtek 3090 1T/1R installed. You rea...
