Yes, booting from microSD works fine.
After I migrated from the fitlet-iA10 to fitlet-H, I had a left over -iA10 model with 8GB
RAM. So I copied my OS to a 32GB microSD, and put it in the fitlet-iA10 for OS testing.
(The 1TB mSATA SSD remains in my fitlet-H...)

... As all user I see this hardware so hot... :( For the next gen of hardware, fitlet X 2 for with 4 ethernet port is good, but reduce the power budget. ... Have you checked out the optional finned cover? It's in stock and 15.00 Dollars/US. The device won't reduce power consumption, but it can redu...

Re: Gentoo Linux
The migration from fitlet-iA10 to fitlet-H, (which has builtin 2.5" SATA drive bay), went smooth. So now my storage is this; 1TB mSATA 2TB spinning drive SATA All my media is on the 2TB drive, (1.4T currently in use). With the OS on the mSATA SSD in a 20GB partition. Thus, reserving the 950GB remain...

Serial console for fitlets when using Linux
Here are the rough steps for using a serial console in Linux. This has been working fine with my original fitlet-iA10, and now with my fitlet-H. For me, I am using a network accessible serial terminal server. But, this method can also be used with cheaper USB to serial adapters from MS-Windows or Li...

Re: How to reenable graphics after disabling it in BIOS?
Sorry, can't post the BIOS screens... my fitlet is not wired to a monitor. But, I can make a suggestion about what to do with embedded PCs, (like the fitlets), that have a serial port, (again like the fitlets). Use the serial port in Grub, on the Linux kernel command line, (also in the Grub configur...

fitlet-T - Will it have ECC memory support?
The SoC that's supposed to be used in the model fitlet-T, seems to support ECC memory. (Of course, I say "supposed to" and "seems to", because the fitlet-T has not been released.) If you did support ECC memory in the fitlete-T, I would likely upgrade from my fitlet-H. Which is really an upgrade from...

Re: FACET suggestion - 10GBaseT & eSATA
Intel just came out with the X550 dual 10Gbps Ethernet over copper chip. It's a bit power hungry unfortunantly, up to 11 watts. But it does include 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 10Gbps plus the pre-standard 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps speeds. Since it's a dual chip, it would work good for fitlet-i or -H models which includ...

Re: Fitlet iA10 v pfSense SG-2220
It's not clear if the AMD "aes" instruction set is usable by pfSense. While much of what I've read is that the Intel AES-NI is usable, (for things like VPN). When I used a AMD Geode with AES off-load engine, whence I got SSH using it, it was much faster than software encryption. In theory, you can d...

Re: Fitlet XA10 and mSATA install
I don't have a XA10, but do have an iA10. In my case, I had to temporarily
remove the WiFi card to get access to all of the mSATA slot. It's possible
you have to do the same, but with the X-LAN card.

fitlet-H and memory interleaving
Finally migrated from my fitlet-iA10 to a new fitlet-H, so I could have an internal 2TB spinning disk. Also moved the 1TB mSATA flash drive, but bought 2 new matched 8GB SO-DIMMs. Before I did the move, I loaded and ran a memory speed utility. Based on my knowledge of computers, I expected an improv...
