Re: Video acceleration in Linux

There is a version of flash 10.2 that accommodates the Broadcom decoder under Linux, but I have not found it. I found flash_plugin-10.1.82.76-i386 at the absolute linux web sites. It is accelerated for certain brands of video cards, but not Broadcom. However, as these matters go, it did provide info...

Re: Video acceleration in Linux

I've been using the Broadcom BCM70012 video accelerator for making flash stream better on my z510, using the the crystalhd (70012) for hardware acceleration and the /dev/dri generated by the gma500_gfx.ko kernel module. Strange to tell, under RIPLinuX, which has no mesa system, the google chrome pep...

Re: Tip for 64-bit Linux

Isn't it peculiar how the Peacekeeper Benchmark is a slippery target and varies over Time? Still, 50 points one way or another is still 50 points.

Re: Tip for 64-bit Linux

Adding the 64-bit libva and libvdpau cause the Peacekeeper Benchmark to go up from 849 to 901. That is for the basic basic 1 G fit-pc3, and it places that fit-pc3 right between the two Apple wireless telephones. So, if Apple is not using the AMD chipset, it ought to. Streaming flash video also impro...

Broadcom decoder card on fit-pc2 platforms

The mini pci-express sockets on the back of the fit-pc2 circuit boards accept Broadcom BCM70012 and BCM70015 video decoder boards when the wifi cards are removed. These are half and full height cards, and the wifi card hold-downs can be adjusted for half and full height. It may even be that the same...

Re: Hdmi not working

I have an asus hdmi monitor that has a peculiarity which causes the screen to blank, not the fault of the fit-pc3. This blanking happens in both Windows 8 and several Slackware 32-bit and 64-bit installations. Basically, you need some kind of background image or solid color (not black) on the deskto...

Re: Tip for 64-bit Linux

Here is the ranking that comes out of running the browser benchmark, noting that other browsers enable tests no longer enabled in google chrome for 64 bits.

Tip for 64-bit Linux

In 64-bit Linuxes, I think it helps to run the radeonfb.ko kernel module in addition to the radeon.ko kernel module, in terms of improving full-screen streaming-video quality. Definitely runs html5 benchmarks faster under 64-bit Linux. (Remembering that the most recent 64-bit google chrome eliminate...

Re: Slackware 14 on basic fit-pc3

Oh, and one more thing: If you are counting on using the LIMBO emulator to run Linux on the ARM machine, there is one revealing footnote at the google web site that describes LIMBO. LIMBO does not have sound. Maybe what you have in mind does have sound working, but not the one available from google....

Re: Slackware 14 on basic fit-pc3

Let me point out that the Slackware 14 uses a Macintosh OS-style windows manager. I think this is interesting because IOS and Macintosh OS are all Intel-based systems. It isn't legal, and it costs money, but you could get Macintosh OS to run on the Intense PC using something called Hackintosh. The p...
