Ubuntu 12.10 the release
Wow, it comes with built-in EMGD that lets you adjust the resolution to 16:9 in all kinds of preferred ways, including choosing between laptop and desktop mode. It looks just like the Windows EMGD driver in setup. It also automatically knows the difference between spdif and analog plug in spdif hole...

Latest Realtek Windows 8 driver has a patch.exe in it
I am doing this from Windows 8 running on the fit-pc2i z530. I finally figured out how to install the very latest Windows 8 audio driver from Realtek in Taiwan into Windows 8. You have to drag Windows 8 figuratively kicking and screaming into installing this unsigned, unverified driver. If you do, t...

Re: Configuring WLAN for optimal performance in Windows XP
I have been playing with Windows XP lately, and I think the reason for erratic wifi performance reported earlier is the ralink utility program. Simplest and best solution is to use the native Windows XP wifi utility to set up the wifi driver. The Windows utility actually works, is quite stable and c...

Getting sound to work by merging the Win7 and WinXP drivers
I have been experimenting with Windows XP-SP3 on the z530 fit-pc2i, and have commented before that getting the stereo compuer speakers to work properly is a problem. Yet I know from using it that the Windows 7 sound driver with the patch.exe program does indeed work correctly. So, I got both Compula...

Re: Latest Intel gma500 driver for Windows
I am writing this from the z510 using the Compulab display driver, not the Intel web site display driver. The reason is that, if you install the Windows XP driver from Compulab, after coddling it so it stays installed at 1024x768, I found a mode that does almost full screen with maybe 2 cm. margins ...

The fit-pc2i is too good not to continue
I am eagerly awaiting a Compulab announcement that the fit-pc2i will continue as a z53xx based system using the latest 32-bit Intel tablet z5xxx cpus and the latest Intel graphics chip.

Re: Windows sound driver causes file corruption
Interesting thing that installing the very same driver under Windows 8 in Windows 7 mode does not cause file corruption, and the same patch.exe program runs.

Making all the Compulab Windows 7 drivers work in Windows 8
Someone once asked me, "Do you come with instructions?" That pretty well sums it up for Windows 8. I finally discovered a way to install both the graphics and the sound drivers from Compulab, not from Intel or Realtek, in Windows 7 compatibility mode (naturally). But, that means I am using 1360x768 ...

Re: Testing new theories on Windows 8
I decided to try the "safe resolution" mode trick to install the Compulab IEMGD graphics driver for Windows 7 on my Windows 8 system, in Windows 7 mode. It worked. After several restarts, I am now running my fit-pc2i z530 in the beloved 1360x768 resolution that is so much more efficient.

Re: Getting wifi to work in Linux on the z530
Let me suggest that users can get a copy of say, RIPLinuX-13.7.iso, mount it on a loop, extract the wificonfig script and use it to generate rc.wifi and its auxiliary file. I am enclosing the generalized rc.wifi file from my system, without the local details in the generated auxiliary file.
