Re: Slackware 14 on basic fit-pc3
As you know the radeon driver for Linux has a limited set of screen resolutions. There is a trick to get around that problem in Slackware 14: Go to the 'extra' directory and install the xf86...fbdev graphics driver. Then go to /usr/lib/xorg and disable the radeon, modesetting, and vesa drivers. On t...

Slackware 14 on basic fit-pc3
I haven't been able to display Hebrew for some reason on my RIP setup, so I put Slackware 14 onto my spare partition and updated the kernel to the latest 3.10.5-smp, and I get instant Hebrew text on appropriate web sites. Somewhere, you might want to put a "how to add Hebrew" howto.

Re: Possible fix for usb3 port shutoff
Or, maybe it's the
distrust_firmware:true
parameter that does the job. I get the two mixed up. Someone who really knows the machine ought to comment. Something definitely needs to make the usb3 work. And, who knows? Maybe that affects the HDMI sound output under Linux.

Re: USB3
I think I know the answer. There is an entire section of the bios devoted to how the usb ports should be powered. The default is "auto", and I don't think anyone has checked to see what else beside "auto" there is. It turns out that all the usb ports have options in which the user can choose to keep...

Re: fitpc3 video performance
Under Windows 8, youtube stuttering happens as a result of the Power settings in Control Panel. If I set fit-pc3 basic on Powersave to keep the case cool, the system runs like a fit-pc2 which is tripping the internal power interrupts so as to prevent thermal runaway. Balanced power setting under Win...

Re: Front USB stopped working
My front USB ports stopped working recently also. But I had a USB sound card connected to one of the rear USB ports, and I suspect that it was drawing more power than the ports were meant to support, and this led to the front ports closing down. Since computers I own regularly die from my abuse, I d...

Re: Windows 8 fit-pc3 basic overclock feature
The enclosed screen capture shows the results of running the Peacekeeper benchmark on Internet Explorer and Firefox on the "fit-pc3 tablet". What you don't see in the photo is the effect of using Windows 8 gpu acceleration to make things run very fast in firefox. The acceleration shows the potential...

Windows 8 fit-pc3 basic overclock feature
Windows 8 foremerly overclocked the 1 ghz version of fit-pc3 to 1.24 ghz, without overheating it. I think the chipset had the same designation as the more recent models. I went and bought the stripped-down basic model recently, and it runs 1 ghz under new and old versions of Windows 8. So, I guess t...
