Re: hdmi in mintbox
I did some preliminary tests on my fit-pc3 pro, and it is about as fast as the intense-pc basic. I mean it gets a peacekeeper benchmark score of around 1100+ in RIPLinuX, which is slightly less than the basic intense-pc. It even has a few of the idiosyncrasies of the intense-pc in running difficult ...

Re: Intense PC as media player and use of external sound car
I should add that a few of the higher-quality USB sound card devices actually list "studio quality" sound capabilities.

Re: Intense PC as media player and use of external sound car
By "external sound card", you could mean a USB-powered sound card or a USB-powered sound card with an S/PDIF input, both of which connect to a high-quality pair of computer speakers or a high-quality surround speaker system. I know from looking at the internet that there are a few such sound cards. ...

Re: Windows 8
One more thing: In case you checked out my customer review of the z550 fit pc2 at the amazon.com web site, I gave a discussion of how to set up the fit pc2 for Windows 8 and RIPLinuX using the fbdev graphics driver on a separate partition. It turns out that sound can be 24-bits studio quality withou...

Re: Windows 8
I should correct the previous charge against Microsoft. If you shut off the "Enable Performance Mode" in the Intel graphics driver, you get better stability in the sense that the screen stops flashing. There are still occasional "jumps" on the screen. Also, streaming flash "hardware" acceleration is...

Re: Doing Riplinux on the intense pc celeron
I recommend the 3.2.1 kernel for any slackware linux, simply because it provides superior wifi performance over any other more recent kernels. On a fit-pc3, you need to include '/sbin/modprobe radeon' in the startup for best video performance, a minor problem.

Re: Windows 8
It looks as if windows update includes something that spoils the performance of the gma500 driver under Windows 8. Conclusion: Disable the update after a fresh installation to confirm to yourself that the gma500 driver is adequate for Windows 8, then update. By "spoil performance", I refer to the sc...

Re: Power consumption when in Sleep or Shutdown
That's curious. My power meter shows 3 watts at the power plug side of the power brick when in shutdown mode with power on. It also shows that 20 watts going into the power brick appears to be the upper bound on power consumption, going full screen with video benchmarks running, and less than 16 wat...

Re: Audio output in Windows 8 on Intense PC
Maybe I can refine that somewhat. I went to the Intel NUC web page and downloaded the latest graphics driver for Windows 8 (32-bits on my system). It seems the driver is meant to handle a whole host of Intel graphics chipsets, including the one that the intense pc is derived from. The license statem...

Re: Doing Riplinux on the intense pc celeron
Latest Slackware 3.8 series pre-compiled kernel gives exceptionally good results on both Riplinux and Slackware 14, especially the pure hdmi output.
