Windows 7 SP1 is not quite the same as Windows 7

So far, running Windows 7, SP1, on the z510 shows up to a 500 megabyte ram availability. I had been working on getting ram usage down in a z510 windows installation, and this is better than earlier attempts. The trick is using the zero graphics effects Windows 7 system and setting the screen resolut...

Re: Windows 8 on the z550 with 2gb ram

I think you will find that using the heat sink is a factor in the stability of the software in a desktop environment for the z550 and z530.

Changing DDR2 ram

I keep puzzling over how you solder ram to the computer board in the fit-pc2, and what you do if the piece of ram fails tests afterwards; and I keep coming up with the answer that 200 pins are a lot of pins, and I have never seen a piece of ram sold as a computer part with 90-degree angle pins. I wi...

Re: Audio Problem - Intense PC

I mentioned elsewhwere that the latest Windows 8 OEM installation DVD does a complete installation with no Compulab drivers needed and a "Graphics Properties" box from the Intel Windows 8 driver. The missing item is the analog output, but there is a built in driver for a usb analog sound card, and W...

Re: Windows 8 on the z550 with 2gb ram

So far, Windows 8 updates and all, I have a very stable installation of Windows 8 on the z550, using the iemgd driver from Windows 7 running in default Windows XP mode, and with the heatsink tightly on. I mean that a secondary app runs at full speed while the system is being updated, and there is no...

Microsoft/Intel support of the Intense PC

The very latest Windows 8 OEM installer DVD comes with a complete built-in Windows 8 certified Intel graphics driver, including "graphics properties". In other words, with the latest OEM and an Intense PC, you get a complete installation without using Compulab drivers. And, of course, it only suppor...

Re: Windows 8 on the z550 with 2gb ram

The very latest Windows 8 installation DVD supports both the gma500 and the iemgd Windows 7 drivers, one at a Time, of course. I have been testing the iemgd driver on the latest Windows 8. If you let the system choose the compatibility settings, you get a Windows XP installation, with hardware-accel...

Re: Audio Problem - Intense PC

I need to correct the above: There are some audio pages that will use up the CPU with any sound card, not simply the above USB sound card with all the home theater options. In reality, the USB sound cards add at most another 1-2 % of CPU overhead from my measurements.

Re: Windows 8

I have a fairly new Windows 8 installation disk, and my earlier z550 Windows 8 installation stopped working because I tried out the MID for the display adapter and there are no mechanisms for going back to the dvi-d display. So, what the heck, I re-installed Windows 8 with the brand-new installation...

Re: Audio Problem - Intense PC

The HDMI to analog audio converter in my HDMI monitor is basically running at 41000 and 44000, medium studio quality. If you buy a newer USB sound card with analog output for your downmixed SRS 7.1 sound, you get roughly that sound quality, and it shows up under Windows 7/8 as a separate sound devic...
