Re: Life expectancy of the fit-PC2

I'd expect that the weak link would be the hard drive. The solid state components seem to be exemplary in build quality, and I'd think might last almost indefinitely. However, with mechanical components, the drives will be more vulnerable to failure. Hard to find a small drive that has more than a o...

Re: fit-PC2 as remote music player

I've set up the Fit as a dedicated music server, using the Squeezebox line of equipment. See the thread in the Server section. I use a combination of Squeezebox products, including a Duet (combo Receiver and Remote), a Transporter (high-end audio) and a Boom (for remote wireless use). The Fit has wo...

Re: FitPC2 as Squeezebox server -- success!

Further update. . . Still working fine; have installed UltraVNC and am now running headless, no more swapping keyboard and monitor cables. Added a Transporter (high end Squeezebox device, now discontinued but occasionally available online). The Duet Receiver is fine, better DAC than my old CD player...

Re: Screen resolution (via UltraVNC)

Leonid, thank you. This is what you have posted on the sticky from 2009.

It would be helpful if the path on the downloads page was to this file; as it stands, it is to the Intel site, and the generic driver.

Re: Screen resolution (via UltraVNC)

Where is the correct IEGD driver? There are some links from 2009 in the threads; the current download page has a link to the Intel edc site, and then there are several options for downloading, and I'm not sure what the correct one is.

Screen resolution (via UltraVNC)

I've been using my Fit2 for over a year now, and it's been on 24/7 as a music server. Not a hint of a problem. But I got tired of connecting/disconnecting keyboard and display, so decided to run it headless, controlled over the network with UltraVNC. Works like a charm. Aside from the fact that the ...

Headless XP

I'm running a fit2 as a music server; it was purchased diskless and I've installed a 500gb disk and XP Home. It's successfully on the network, running 24/7 for the past year, and is used only as a music server running Squeezebox Server (SBS). So far I've been swapping out monitor, mouse and keyboard...

Re: FitPC2 as Squeezebox server -- success!

It's now been five months since I've been using the Fit2 as a music server, 24/7. I've had no problems to date. There have been frequent additions to the music library (now up to 15k individual tracks). The system is mainly used to power the main stereo system, although it is also used to feed the B...

Re: Fit-PC2 1,1GHz as AV media server?

I think that is basically what I'm doing, except with the 1.6. See my post on the topic. The fit is on the network, I access it through my main PC, although sometimes do hook up the necessary interfaces (keyboard, mouse, monitor) and work directly on the fit, but rarely. Regular updates to the datab...

Re: Mini/Micro SD

Well, as noted, the miniSD adapter for a micro card is hard to find in Toronto (and I think most places in North America). I've gone to several electronics stores, and micro cards are always packaged with a standard adapter. I haven't yet found one with a mini adapter, have looked at the usual suspe...
