fit-pc3i front face light not working ?!

I have never seen the front face light on my fitpc-3i go on. It is always dark. I am running linux mint 17. What could i most easily do to check if its broken or if it is just not enabled by software ?

Will 15mm HDD fit into fit-pc3 internally ?

Also: would they fit into IPC2 ?
