I did not bother to resolve the WIFI problem. I used a Powerline instead. This works for my needs, but I am sure it can be solved with the latest kernels (www.kernel.org). How to install these can be found on Ubuntu forums. Maybe I will retry to use my Wifi again when upgrading to the next Ubuntu ve...

as Mint is a derivate of Ubuntu, the behaviour should be the same.
