Well, here I am answering all my own questions.

I installed the Wifi drivers from this site, which fixed the conflict with USB3.

So the conclusion is: even if Windows auto-installs drivers, they are not correct.

Hmm, only now I can either have WiFi or the DVD-player on USB3, but not both!
Some sort of conflict I suppose.

Ah, I figured it out. USB3 is like a different device, so you have to install the same drivers twice. msinfo32 was helpful.

I just installed Win7 64-bit on the FIT-PC3. Everything auto-installed except the USB3 controller, which I downloaded from here. In device manager, the controller now seems happy, but actually nothing works in the usb3 ports, in particular my LiteOn Blu-Ray external drive. It shows up fine if I put ...
