Yes (actually each guide I tried essentially boiled down to the same thing).
Since booting from DVD also does not work I do not think the problem comes from the USB boot preparation.

Okay, weird… I left the fit-PC3 unplugged for several hours and it seems the MAC address reappeared spontaneously
This allowed me to test PXE boot — works fine.
