Re: Feature request: C-states & P-states support

I find this surprising as the fit PC3 I have does have freq scaling out of the box on openSUSE, upgrading from 3.11 to 3.13 & up, enables the Radeon DPM features further reducing power. I've upgraded to 3.15 recently and my AMD Bobcat drops to 825 Mhz at idle, 1/2 the rate of the core that's got ful...

Re: Audible humming / ticking in fit-PC3

Can't re-edit my post to add this, but an explanation to why this occurs (and a possible future solution) is at Reduce acoustic noise from capacitors . Think capacitors are used in switching mode power circuitry which lower voltage by turning on/off for shorter/longer periods to smooth the output. Q...

Re: Audible humming / ticking in fit-PC3

I've found this disturbing, even with Aggressive Power Mangaement disabled, I suspected my Crucial M500 SSD as the noise tends to occur during disk access, especially when I ran 'hdparm -t /dev/sda' to verify I had SSD not notebook drive like read speeds. Enabling Aggro PM, makes the ticks & hums ha...

Re: Typical Wattage at Idle - Model Comparison

Thanks for posting that, I only re-found this thread today. I'll add the ACPM, is the BIOS option, Disable/Enable Aggressive Power Management which as delivered is disabled as it tends to lead to quiet tick/buzz noises which sound like active laptop spinning rust hard drives. Personally I went for F...

Air Travel

Next winter I'm expecting a long trip away, and am considering taking not only laptop but the fit PC3 used as SOHO server, rather than be stuck with just Win8 & Cygwin for months. Just wondering if anyone's had experience of taking the ribbed Pro on board as hand luggage? I'd be bit worried about tr...

Re: Typical Wattage at Idle - Model Comparison

Andy, I didn't find precise power consumption figures from Fit PC themselves, just the TDP style figures; I would expect it would cost the company a fair amount to provide such information to (would need careful validation). However the system idle and peak power times in Bobcat reviews were done II...

Re: Typical Wattage at Idle - Model Comparison

Are there any figures for Idle power consumption on Fit PC3 models with similar drive options? I presume the website figures of 18W for Pro (AMD G-T56N RADEON HD 6320, dual 1.6GHz), and 7W for Low Power (AMD G-T40E RADEON HD 6250, dual 1.0GHz) models are maximum under load, TDP type figures. Lookin...

Re: Linux performance and AMD

How are the drivers? I mean, ATi has always been a pain in Linux, will the radeons in fit-pc3 be fully supported in Linux? Are these drivers open source, so that they can be used for all future kernels? To counter the AMD/ATI FUD here; I've used Linux Certfied AMD boxes from Novell's certification ...
