Re: DLNA

Dear benke, You appear to be confused about what DLNA means for hardware. If you buy a portable music player, it can be certified as a "Digital Media Player". If you buy a printer, it could be certified as a "Digital Media Printer". If you buy a remote-control it could be certified as a "Digital Med...

Re: Auto Resume on power loss

Your evaluation of the implications is incorrect. "auto-resume" is a feature in bios that, upon power being restored after a loss, will set the machine to it's previous on or off state, with no reguard to data-safety, or 'imagaing'. I believe we aren't going to get this feature. "Instant-on" is wher...

Re: Ubuntu recovery image now available

Umm, not to alarm you or anything, but is it possible that your disk is fried? (or, i suppose, the usb key you're loading the image onto?)

Re: READ_DMA TIMEOUT/FAILURE's and g_vfs_done() I/O errors

Sorry, by AC i didn't mean "Alternating Current" but "Air Conditioning" ... i was refering to a heating problem. The other environmental problem that could affect both is remote user load. If these machines were 'unattended', I assume you're using them for servers in some capacity, could a spike in ...

Re: Fit-PC2 running XP without a monitor attached

by "cmd prompt" we mean go to start -> run -> cmd.exe and then we mean to type: cd "c:\documents and settings\neil vass\my documents\masters\download masters\gma500_6_14_11_1009" once you're in that directory, you shouldn't need any sorts of brackets or quotes to go run: setup.exe -res 1280 x 1024 x...

Re: READ_DMA TIMEOUT/FAILURE's and g_vfs_done() I/O errors

They both failed at the same time? and the disk itself reports errors... recoverable, but actual errors? I'd look for an environmental problem if two seperate disks in seperate machines failed, temporarily, at the same point in time.

Your AC go out? Have an earthquake? etc...

Re: Ordering fit-pc2?

OK, so I checked with fit-pc.co.uk and they offer the linux performance option with no wifi, which exactly what i want, but fail to ship to USA.

Any distributors within USA offering instant-on?

Re: Just tried to install FreeBSD on Fit-PC2

oh well. little steps. It's a software issue, and I'm sure they'll get it eventually, and I can use the ubuntu install until FreeBSD works.

I would like to order your product. How do I specify the instant-on feature?

Re: Auto Resume on power loss

This brings up an interesting question. I've worked on a few dozen computers myself and the bios chip is always easily visible because: a) it's in a socket so it can be extracted, b) it's bigger (or 'older') than any other chip on the board, c) it's got a shiny reflective plate on it saying what sor...
