The Intense PC contains certain HW provisions for IR.
These provisions are not functional and cannot be used as an IR interface.

No, sorry. Intense PC doesn't support mSATA The statement above is not entirely accurate. The current Intense PC units from the first pilot batch do not support mSATA. Hi Jean,
although we have not tested explicitly the SATA channel connected to mSATA, it is the same controller. So the BIOS fix should apply to mSATA as well.
You're right about BIOS versioning. We intend to post BIOS version numbers and release notes.
