Memory

I'm typing this message on my AspireOne netbook. It has a cool feature that involves an SD slot specifically intended to supplement base storage (not primarily as removable/transportable memory). It allows the SSD versions to be supplemented easily. Now, I know this is not an obviously easy technica...

Re: Fit-PC2 1,1GHz as AV media server?

Well, we'll see. Used only as a music server, I don't imagine that "load" on the CPU will be a big issue. The "case as heat sink" should manage this issue adequately. No one seems to be reporting heat-related failures, and my 500 gb drive should not be more heat sensitive than the standard 160gb. An...

Re: Product to Canada?

I was advised by Tracan Electronics in Canada (Mississauga, just outside of Toronto) that they will be obtaining stock but don't yet have it -- they are deciding what to order, and probably won't be getting what I want -- a diskless 1.6. The advice was to order directly. Which I have done, eating th...

Re: Fit-PC2 1,1GHz as AV media server?

Thank you for that excellent summary. I've ordered my 1.6 diskless, and will install a 500gb drive in order to make the device my primary music server (using Squeezecenter, driving two Duets and a Boom, probably no more than two at a time). I opted for the internal configuration as 500 gb should suf...

Re: Availability in Canada

There is a distributor in Canada, or at least I was told there was one. This is Tracan electronics -- listed as a distributor on the Compulab website, but NOT on the Fit-2 site. They (Tracan) have told me that they will be getting Fit2s in, but can't get them yet. I'm waiting impatiently. What's up?...

Product to Canada?

There is a distributor in Canada, close enough I could drive there to get a Fit2. However, they report being unable to get any product, or at least the diskless version I want.

What's up? Missing sales here.

Re: Fit-PC2 1,1GHz as AV media server?

My question exactly, except I'll be searchin upwards of 10k files and possibly serving multiple music streams. Any informed opinions out there?

Re: Auto Resume on power loss

Reference here is made to both auto resume and instant on, not necessarily the same thing. Instant on implies an image of the system state constantly updated, so that a power return after power loss could result in an instant return to the previous state. I can see why this would be non-trivial. Aut...

Installing XP -- sequence help

As I've posted elsewhere, lack of a VGA option may be an intractable problem for me, but I'll try to manage. In the event I can solve the problem, I'd like some advice. I'm not a totally naive user, but it's been a while since I did a full windows install to a naked drive, and this configuration is ...
